JJ answers questions from fans

Q: What’s the best prank you’ve pulled or seen pulled?

JJ: I am definitely not much of prankster, I’ll admit that. My dry humor and sarcasm is what cuts at people- not any pranks. One of my
favorite pranks that comes to mind happened the summer before my freshman season at Duke. One weekend, Lee Melchionni dressed up like a bum and took a guitar into Crabtree Mall in Raleigh, NC. He started playing music (he had no idea how to play) and asking people for money. Eventually, he was asked politely to leave. Come Monday morning, Coach Wojo called Lee into his office and said, “Lee, did you dress up like a bum and go to the mall. What the heck were you thinking?” I guess news travels fast when you’re a Duke basketball player.

Q: What players would you say helped you the most on the Magic during your rookie year?

JJ: I would say that a few guys really looked out for me when I was a rookie. Pat Garrity, Carlos Arroyo, and Grant Hill were all very
good mentors for me. I spent a lot of time with Pat on the road- going to dinner, movies, etc. He was a good vet for me. Carlos and Grant helped me adjust to the NBA game. But to be honest with you, we have a team full of good guys and everyone helped me in some way my rookie year.

Q: Are you playing fantasy football? Hows your team?

JJ: Yes, I am in a fantasy football league. So far this year I am 0-2. Some of the key players on my team are Reggie Wayne, Drew Brees, Clinton Portis, and Shaun Alexander. It’s my first time
playing fantasy football and I’m not sure I did a great job drafting players. We’ll see as the season unfolds. My league is comprised of
a bunch of 30 and 40 year-olds that I know in Orlando.

Q: What’s the hardest thing about being in the NBA?

JJ: NBA training camp is the most difficult part of the season in terms of practice and conditioning. Camp is very intense and
competitive because players are jockeying for spots in the rotation. Usually, there are two practices and both last anywhere from two to
three hours. I didn’t get to have the full training camp experience last year so this time around should be interesting.

Q: If you could attend any sporting event what would it be?

JJ: If you read my “Top-5” blog I listed my 5 sporting events that I would like to attend during my life. I think for me, a Red Sox-
Yankees Game 7 would be at the top of my list. I’ve been a Red Sox fan for about 8 years now- Manny is my favorite player ever so when he left Cleveland I started rooting for the Red Sox. Now, I love all their players.
