JJ answers questions from fans

Q: Do you have any nicknames besides JJ?

JJ: I never really had any nicknames besides J.J. until I got to college. Jordan Davidson, Josh McRoberts, Ian Carey, and Spencer Wadsworth- my four best friends from college- used to call me Skretick, Skremzic, or McSkretick. Don’t ask me why. Because I
don’t know the answer.

Q: What is your workout routine both in and out of season?

JJ: My workouts in the offseason consist of lifting three times a week, core training five times a week, pilates twice a week, conditioning two or three times a week, and basketball workouts five or six times a week. During the season it’s a little different. We have practice everyday but I still manage to fit in lifting, core training, and individual basketball workouts three or four times a week.

Q: What’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?

JJ: I have actually never been trick-or-treating in my life. My parents did not agree with the basis of Halloween (it’s a pagan holiday, according to some) and I never really like candy so there was no reason to go. However, if I were to ever need to dress up in costume I would like to dress up as Batman or Captain Planet.

Q: Do you think its a good idea to have teams play preseason games in Europe and Asia?

JJ: I understand why the NBA is sending teams to Europe and Asia during the preseason. It’s all a part of the effort to globalize basketball and reach into new markets. From a business standpoint it makes a lot of sense. However, I will say the travel on the players is difficult. I know from personal experience.

Q: If you could play a game of horse with any player, past or present, who would you choose?

JJ: I would probably want to play a game of horse with Reggie Miller. He and I have been talking about having a shooting contest since I was a freshman in college. I don’t know who would win- he’s pretty darn good.

Q: What’s the dynamic like in the Magic locker room? Who’s the leader, who picks the tunes, who is the prankster, etc.

JJ: Let’s be clear here- Dwight, and only Dwight, picks the music in the locker room and the weight room. We listen to a lot of Kanye,
Lil’ Wayne (I love Kanye and Weezy), and, unfortunately, Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em. Sometimes, during the offseason mostly, we have “White Guy
Wednesdays.” Pat Garrity, James Augustine, and I will lift to the background noise of 80s rock music. As far as clowns on the team- Dwight and Keyon Dooling are the two funniest guys on the team. We really don’t have many serious guys off the court. Everybody jokes around a lot. In terms of leadership, most of our older players all try and lead in some capacity. I think Jameer Nelson has a natural inclination to lead.
