JJ answers questions from fans

Q: How you holding up with the Braces? Have you had to cut any foods out of your diet? (Lee, NJ)

JJ: I’m actually really enjoying having braces. The first couple days after each adjustment is annoying but I’m holding up nicely with them. My teeth have definitely already shifted. In terms of foods I’ve stopped eating- there’s really nothing major other than popcorn. I love going to the movies and always used to get movie theatre popcorn but I’ve had to cut that out. Totally unrelated to braces, I actually decided to stop eating and drinking dairy about 6 weeks ago. I’m not completely dairy-free- almost everything made has some dairy in it (like bread) but I have completely stopped consuming milk, cheese, ranch, cream cheese, etc.

Q: What issues in the upcoming election are most important to you and why? (Kerry, Birmingham)

JJ: The most important issue to me in the upcoming election is the economy. Obviously, the stock market crisis is on the forefront of most people’s minds but I think that is just one of many issues in the economy. We really need to limit government spending- what kind of debt are we creating for future generations of Americans? The tax issue is also important to me. Last time I checked we supposedly live in a capitalist country. We are not socialists. If you EARN a lot of money then I think you should be able to keep more of it. Finally, let me go on record as saying that I did not agree with the government bailing out these banks on Wall Street. Many of our economic problems were created because of lust and greed. Consumers and lenders are equally guilty. Just because banks made some bad bets and were greedy doesn’t mean the government should bail them out. How can we privatize profit but nationalize debt??

Q: How did you get started working with Children’s Miracle Network?

A: Amy Moyer from the Children’s Miracle Network approached me shortly after I was drafted by the Orlando Magic. She wanted me to be the local celebrity spokesperson for CMN and I was happy to do it. I got involved with the Duke Children’s Hospital and have witnessed first-hand the importance of funding for the Children’s Miracle Network (one of my best friends had a brain surgery at a CMN hospital). It’s a great organization and anything I can do to help bring funding and awareness is just as much a blessing for me. Check out childrensmiraclenetwork.com for more information.

As a closet duke fan here in Terp country, was excited to see that you are having a solid start with Orlando. Have always admired you as a player and after checking out your website it seems that you have a pretty good head on your shoulders as well. Keep up the good play, the minutes will come.

JJ,

Although I’m a fan of yours, I do find your comments about “socialism” hilarious! We are no where close to being a socialist country. I won’t ever vote for any political candidate that dupports abortion. As Christians, I would think that’s the most important issue to take into account and not our wallets.

Nothing personal bro, but as long as you put Christ first and sow into what he’s doing, you’ll be fine financially. Nothing personal, just my take on things. Good luck this season.

Congrats on getting the playing time. I have read multiple articles on you and your faith. Keep working hard, keep Christ as your focus, and best of luck. Any chances I could get an autograph for my room at my school that I teach at?

Wow you stoped eating dariy?!? thats cool, (I’m a huge ranch and cheese lover so that would be hard for me.) I am so happy that you are seeing the floor, you deserve it, I just know that you are ganna show them what they’ve been missing the last 2 seasons. I’m also glad that your not hating your braces I heard they can be very frustrating. JJ thank you again and a million times again for all of the work that you do for the community through Childrens Miracle Network your a class act! Good luck and have fun in your 3rd year in the NBA!! peace and love always, kestrel

hey JJ. I am very glad to hear that you are getting some playing time, the playing time you very truly deserve. I still look up to you and I have looked up to you since I was younger. Well, I kinda wanted to see a TOP 5 list again. Lets see…. what were your TOP 5 songs you listened to while you were in college? It’s more of an old school music question. Well good luck, and keep practicing!

I just realized today that if the Magic are really good and you’re playing.. this will be the first time I’ll have to root against you (as a diehard Celtics fan). Well… I guess I’ll still root for you, but against your team when you play my C’s. ;-) Have a great season! (well, not too great. wink)
