Merry Christmas, Happy New Year's

What’s up, kids? Ok, I first want to apologize for not blogging for over a month. As you can imagine, things have been pretty busy with road trips and games and practices and general life activities. I promise not to go this long without checking in with my people. First order of business is to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, even though it was five days ago. We had a game Christmas day (a big win against the Hornets) so my family all had Christmas in North Carolina. It was my first Christmas away from them so it was a little weird. I suppose everyone at some point spends Christmas away from their parents and brothers and sisters. Luckily, I had someone special to spend Christmas with so it wasn’t all bad. I’m sure Christmas was different for a lot of people in terms of gifts because of the current economic situation. My family decided to scale back on gift giving as well but it made us focus even more on the true reason for celebrating- the birth of Jesus Christ. I also want to wish everyone a happy new year’s and hope that all of you have a great year of growth.

One of the things I get asked a lot is, “What is life like on the road?” So I’m going to give you guys a sample of what it’s like based on my last two days (I’m currently sitting in a hotel room in Chicago).

Detroit, Michigan- Monday, December 29
9 am- wake up and walk to Panera Bread to get a sesame bagel and a cup of coffee (Panera’s Hazelnut flavor is great)
10 am- bus to practice
1030 am-12 pm- practice, film, and personnel meetings
1 pm- lift with Joe, our strength coach
2 pm- lunch at the hotel
245 pm- go to Cupcake Station down the street for a cupcake
3 pm- overnight a half dozen cupcakes to Florida because they are so good
315 pm-445 pm- nap
5 pm- put on suit and get on bus
6 pm- arrive at arena, work out for 45 minutes
730 pm- game time
11 pm- get on plane to Chicago
1230 am- arrive in Chicago, gain an hour because we go from Eastern to Central time
1230 am- arrive at hotel

Chicago, Illinois- Tuesday, December 30
9 am- wake up and eat an egg-white omelette and oatmeal
10 am- walk to Zegna store to get some goods
12 pm- bus to practice
1230- 245 pm- practice
330 pm- lunch
430 pm- nap ( I do love naps, don’t I?)
6 pm- core workout for 20 minutes
630 pm- shower and get ready for dinner
7 pm- write a blog for my website
725 pm- end blog and go to dinner

It all starts again tomorrow- and as u can tell there really isn’t a lot of downtime. Even on “off days” I still go get shots up and lift.

Ok, I’m hungry and sushi is calling my name. Y’all be good and I’ll talk to you very, very soon.

Yes, I’m interested in updates!

JJ, All I can say is you did a great job off the bench in your last game against Atlanta on Wed. (Jan. 7). Keep it up man, Stay aggressive! I know playing time has always been an issue in the Magic’s shooting guard position but I admire your dedication and discipline when it comes to just staying ready. Good luck tonight! Keep hitting those 3s.

My son and I have followed you all 4 years at Duke and on to Orlando. Can’t say we’re Orlando fans, but definitely Redick fans! My son cried after your last game on the Duke team and sent you a card about how much he likes you! And we both bought Duke 4 jerseys. :D Love reading your blog. What makes you still great is your belief in Jesus and your frequent mentions of His name and giving glory to God in all you say and do. We love you for that most of all. Know that we are praying for you as you face challenges and trials daily, and things that will try to pull you away from Him as priority. much love! ~ mac

Life on the road sounds tough… it must be worth it though when your team wins a game. I thought long bus rides for high school away games were bad haha. I hope you had a great Christmas even though you didnt get to spend it w/ your family. Me and my parents went to Tennessee for Christmas so it was weird not being with the rest of my family. Duke is having a pretty good season this year, hopefully they can follow through the tournaments. I would just love for them to beat UNC in the ACC tourny… that would be so great. Well i hope you stick to any resolutions you may have made this year. Be strong.

JJ,
My oldest, Jake, had the best Christmas present when you gave him those shoes after the Christmas game. We always joke about his best pictures are all the ones that I have taken of him with you! It is his true smile. Thanks for helping to make our trip to Orlando so special. We have already got calls about you being in our Family Christmas picture! We are booking our next trip for late March and we look forward to seeing you again.

Ryan Acuff | on 1/1/09

J-Man | on 31/12/08

Hope you have a Happy New Year! Life on the road is a lot like being on “The Amazing Race!” lol. Just be glad that you don’t have to drive in Chicago!! I thought I was never going to find the UIC Pavillion once for the Horizon Tourney. I still haven’t decided which was the worse to drive in—Chicago or Alberqueque! Isn’t Chicago in the winter time something? Definitely hit the cinnamon-hazelnut coffee before heading out, they don’t call it the Windy City for nothing!

Philip | on 31/12/08

Happy New Year J it looked like you had a great game against the Bulls. Darn the first game I missed because of the bad weather. Trade ya we had a foot of snow and expecting two feet more lol.
I expect you to get more minutes with the way you played throughout 2009.
God Bless.

Jenna | on 31/12/08

Well a belated Merry Christmas JJ. and even though you do not like New Years too much ( nor do I ) I must say 09’ might be a better year! My dad got me Bulls VS Orlando tickets for Christmas, so I will be seeing you play in the near future! Well I hope your New Years goes well and good luck on the court! God Bless!

Kestrel | on 31/12/08

My family watches many of your games on cable. We’re always pulling for you and really enjoy seeing you play. You know much more about your game than me, but don’t be tentative when you get opportunities…be yourself and things will work out for you in the long run, perhaps in this new year!

Chris | on 30/12/08

What’s up J.J.,

Happy Holidays. Been a fan of yours since your debut at Duke when you dominated Army. Stumbled across the website and thought I’d take the opportunity. Hope the road trips have run smoothly, obviously with winning 11 of 13 will make it more pleasurable. As is with you this was my first holiday away from family. Just moved down to Orlando from PA for my new job at the Ritz Carlton this past March. It’s tough without family however, having that freedom can be gratifying.

Best of luck versus Chicago and happy new year. Gimme a shout man. Let’s go play golf (free might i add). God bless.

You always do such a great job with your blogs and don’t worry about getting behind because after looking at that schedule, your life sounds pretty hectic. I hope you have a great new year. I look forward to see you play even more!
