Q: 2008 had some great sports moments. There one, or a few that stand out as the ones you’ll remember?
JJ: The one sports moment that really stands out from 2008 was Tiger’s win at the 2008 U.S. Open. He won the tournament basically playing with one leg and Rocco Mediate was stellar as well. That tournament was so fun to watch.
Q: I know your about more than the material aspect of Christmas, but did you get any meaningful gifts this year?
JJ: My mom and little sister made a DVD slideshow for me and my brother. The slideshow was set to music and showed pictures of me and my brother from the time we were kids until now. They also spliced in some quotes from 1 Samuel about Jonathan and David (my parents named us that after Jonathan and David from the Bible because they were best friends and Jonathan looked out for David). It was definitely one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever received.
Q: JJ I have been a fan of yours for years. I was just curious but do you hunt? Being from TN I thought there might be a chance…
JJ: I have actually never been hunting. I have plenty of friends who hunt but I’ve never gotten an invite. Maybe they’re trying to tell me something?

i love duke 1st.but how was it playing for coach k. does he ever get mad?
kevin roberts | on 21/1/09
since duke, since you were drafted, and even to this day, I defend the fact that you’re the best shooter the game has to offer. I hate what the NBA is doing to players like you and adam morrison, using injuries or defensive ‘deficiency” as an excuse for a lack of playing time. There are way too many guys getting more minutes than you, who are awful at defense, for those kinds of excuses to fly with me.
You’re still young and you’re a real talent, so I pray you get the chance you ruly deserve. Stay with it, man. You deserve to be a star.

Hi JJ-
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for taking the time to take a picture with my daughters last night (after the Duke/State game). You were trying to get out of there to catch a flight, but you gave into our begging…and it meant a lot to us.
I hope you’re enjoying your “new family”....but we really miss you in Durham!
My only question is when are you coming back to Duke Nation? We need to get a better picture! :-)
(I would post the pic, but this site doesn’t allow it)

JJ, what prayer do you say at the free throw line

Hey, JJ did you ever get to meet Lil’ Wayne?

I would think the greatest sports moment when you were at Duke would have been the game where Sean Dockery hit that buzzer beater against Virginia Tech with 1.6 seconds left. Me and my dad went crazy but we would have went even crazier if you hit the buzzer beater. I was so happy to go to school the next day so I could rub it in all the Maryland and UNC fans faces.

Hey J.J. I have always been a fan of your s ever since you were at Duke. I really appreciate the stand that you make for Christ and that you are willing to admit that you are a Christian. The fact that you look at Christmas as more than just a time of getting presents means alot. And for the U.S. Open i am a huge Tiger fan so i was obviously rooting him on and heartbroken on the fact that he was out the rest of the year. Congrats on the four threes the other night and keep lighting it up to prove my friends and basketball coach wrong. GO DUKE!

Quick question, but. . . .is it hard living knowing you have a better jump shot than any person you come into contact with?
Kestrel | on 16/1/09
aww, what a beautiful gift to get, that must have been a great moment for you, to watch that. The US Open was amazing, what an athlete Tiger is huh? As far as hunting goes, never did it and don’t really want to, but being from a tiny county in Virginia its quite prevalent.
Congrats on your hot streak and good luck in the games to come!
peace and love always,
kestrel
PS:best sports moment of 2009…you lighting it up form behind the arch.

The story of johnny and davie is one of my faves. judges was also great, really good stories there. I almost wanted rocco to win, he deserved it being towards the end of your career. Keep shining your light for him, don’t let satan blow it out.

awh… that is the cutest present and i can see why you loved it so much. thats great that you don’t think of christmas as just getting presents. i live in a small town where almost everyone hunts and we usually get called hicks which a lot of us aren’t. i’ve never been hunting a day in my life and never plan to.. hahaha..
peace it easy and good luck against the lakers tomorrow night :)

Your Christmas present sounded wonderful. That is something that you will have for the rest of your life. as far as hunting goes, I’m from a town where we have the day after Thanksgiving off so people can go hunting. I have never really saw the appeal of sitting outside in a tree in sometimes freezing weather to shoot an animal. Lol!

Hey, JJ! Nice questions. I don’t watch golf so I didn’t see the tournament. That sounds like an awesome gift from your mom and your sister. I’m sure it’s very very special to you. It’s so nice that you and your family give each other such meaningful gifts. I think it’s great that you really focus on the true meaning of Christmas instead of the material version that so many people think of Christmas as. Right before Thanksgiving I was hanging out with a few of my friends and they were saying how they only think of Christmas as being about getting presents. I got really mad because that’s not the point of Christmas at all. I’ve never hunted either, but it seems really fun. We should definitely go hunting together sometime. Haha just kidding. I really wanna ask you a question but I can’t think of anything to ask. Well, hope to hear from you soon. I love you.
Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of Love,
Maggie
