Orlando shooting guard J.J. Redick is immersed in the Magic’s Eastern Conference Finals run these days, but he took time out earlier this week to answer questions from the loyal visitors of redicklive.com.
J.J. welcomes all your questions and the hope at redicklive.com is to have a weekly Q-and-A segment here on the site.
Want to know what J.J.’s pregame routine is or what his favorite NBA city is? Want to know about his favorite memory from Duke or about his regular conversations with Coach K? Just drop us a line here on the site and J.J. will do his best to answer it in a timely fashion.
So away we go with the fans’ questions and J.J.’s answers.
===============
Q: What’s your favorite sport other than basketball?
J.J.: Baseball. That’s what I played growing up and it was my first love. I remember trying to emulate certain guys. I was always a pitcher and it’s just something that I loved to do.
===============
Q: With Gerald Henderson going pro can Duke beat UNC next year without him?
J.J.: Both Duke and UNC are going to lose a lot if their players go to the NBA. You lose a Hansbrough, Ty Lawson and their other guys that’s going to hurt, but they have a lot of good young players just like Duke. I think it will be a pretty even series next year.
===============
Q: Do you still stay in touch with Coach K and Coach Dawkins at Duke?
J.J.: I still talk to Coach K fairly often. With Coach Dawkins, I talk to him in the offseason and in the summer when he’s back at Duke. When we do the K Academy every summer, a lot of the former players get together and we have a good time.
===============
Q: What do you like most about Orlando? What do you miss the most about Duke?
J.J.: What I like most about Orlando is the year-round sunny weather. What’s not to like about that? What I miss most about Duke are the people. I miss my friends and family back there.
===============
Q: Is it ever weird for you to play against old Duke teammates in the NBA?
J.J.: No, it’s not weird. Just in general, people make such a big deal that I played for Duke. But these days I feel so far removed from that that it doesn’t feel weird at all.
===============
Q: Would you ever consider appearing on ``Dancing With the Stars’’ if you were asked?
J.J.: Hell no!!!
