MY GAME 4 BLOG FOR FRIDAY

That was just a killer loss for us last night, and what makes it feel even worse is that a lot of the reasons why we lost were our own errors. It’s so hard to beat a good team like the Lakers, but it’s even more difficult to do it when you make as many mistakes as we did.

We just shot ourselves in the foot time and time again. Free throws and turnovers killed us. This is like the third straight game where they have taken 15 of 20 more shots than us because of turnovers. Their length is bothering us and they are doing a good job doubling down on Dwight. We have to do a better job of handling it.

We’re always going to be in the game at the end because we figure out ways to be right there. It’s just unfortunate that we didn’t finish because of the missed free throws. We make those and we’re right there in position to win the game.

I got 17 minutes last night and hit a baseline shot in the second quarter, a three in the third quarter that tied the game and a free throw on a tech. But the shot that still bothers me is the one late in the third quarter when I pump-faked, drew the contact from Kobe, but got no call from the refs. I guess I’m not Kobe and I’m just not going to get that call. What can you do?

I know everybody is burying us now and not thinking we can come back from 3-1, but we’re not giving up hope. We really feel like we should be ahead in this series if we would have gotten a couple of breaks and finished games a little better.

I know that it sounds like a cliché, but we really have to look at it one game at a time now. Stan has talked about it all postseason about how one game can change a series. In Game 4, obviously all the momentum went back in their favor.

If we look at it like we have to win Sunday, then we’ll be fine. If we look at it like we have to win three games in a row, then mentally it’ll be a little tougher.

We’re not going down without a fight. And we still have plenty of fight left in us.

J

Yes, I’m interested in updates!

Congratulations JJ, on a succesful season! you should be proud on the accomplisment of the team even though we lost today i think we should charged it for experience…

the positive attitude to that is moving on and used it as our motivation to our NBA finals trophy..

You have put a new blog up, but that isn’t a surprise considering everything. I thought you played great in the time that you were given.
I am really proud of your play as well as the Magic. Y’ll were not suppose to get this far this year and you did.
Good luck with your play next year.
One other thing and I know this is slightly early, but I hope you have a great birthday June 24th it will be your 25th and it will be my first.
(short version, my birthday was never celebrated on the correct day because of a fake birth certificate).
Congrad’s to you on everything done this year.

fight to win tonight! gl

Real fans will stay with you guys ‘til the end (a win in game 7 It is only those jumping on the bandwagon that are writing you guys off-
I heard the kobe comment about the lack of fouls called on him and he says he knows they don’t call him because he’s a superstar, but wht can he do about it …..bad attitude man….
As you say, it is one game at a time….I agree the turnovers are killers….Any team can win on any day…..Sunday is the MAGIC’s day!

Kestrel | on 13/6/09

JJ, I admire not only your positive outlook, but also the fact that you know that things aren’t going the Magic’s way right now, a lot of people would be like “yeah we got this, no big deal”, but you see that there is work that needs to be done. keep that positive yet realist outlook. I can see that you know where your team struggled now comes the hard part of trying to fix it before and on Sunday…you can do it I have faith in that. you played so well, the announcers couldn’t stop talking about you, it was amazing! when you faked the pass and sent Kobe flying i just about cried I was so happy…and of course you nailed the three! and your passes were World Class.
as for you drawing the foul…which you totally did and did better than Kobe, I can’t believe they didn’t call it.
Keep playing like you are and the Magic will win one game at a time until you win it all! ps:sorry i wrote so much (hahaha) peace and love always, Kestrel

Just want to say that you played great D on Kobe most chances you’ve had this series. I know it’s Kobe and regardless he’ll eventually get his but it seems that he’s had the least amount of success against you and that says something for your D. The J will fall like it used to back in those glorious Duke days but your improved playmaking ability and D have shown people that they were wrong about you just being a shooter in this league. Keep ballin man.

Hi J.J,

I’ve been following the NBA finals. I was a bit disappointed cause I didn’t get to see you on TV during game 3 but I was happy to see you playing on game 4. I jumped out of my couch when I saw the 3 point shot that tied the game. Also, I sensed that your teammates don’t really pass the ball to you. I saw you wide open few times with chances to score. I was watching your old games on youtube and I must say you are a combo of beauty and basketball. I hope you get more time and opportunity to play. Good luck and don’t stop believing in yourself!

Cecile W. | on 12/6/09

Hey J! Well, to be quite honest I’ve just barely started following the NBA games until I got tired of hearing Kobe is the best player. UGH! I think he’s just the most greediest player! Anyway, I’m from LA and have become your fan. I think you’re a down to earth kind of person and always at your best. All you can do during play offs is to go with the flow and everything else will just intertwine with your great attitude. Don’t let opponents kick that focus out of you. Just keep focusing on your goals and heck with everyone in the opposing team. GOOD LUCK ON SUNDAY!!! :P

Dudesta | on 12/6/09

The ball moves so much better when you’re out there, you need to go to a team where you can be a full time starter. Too bad Van Gundy is under utilizing you, its a real shame.

Hey,
I just wanted to share how fun it is to watch such a great team player as yourself each night. My dad and I have always loved watching basketball and after watching your career at Duke I became a big fan. Dad and I use basketball as a time for bonding, and you are the main reason for it so I thank you. Watching you play is so refreshing. A player that passes, is aware of himself and his teammates on court, and focuses on team ball is unheardof in the NBA, and I just wanted to share my appreciation for your play. Good luck in the rest of the finals games and Dad and I will be cheering for you!!! Thanks JJ!!

Tough loss last night. i’m glad to see you and the team are staying positive, as you should! There isn’t reason to count you guys down and out and it pisses me off to watch ESPN and hear everybody say how the series is over. The thing they are forgetting is..IT’S NOT OVER. I think someone needs to let them know that in order to win a series you have to win 4 games. Okay enough of me complaining about that. On a good note, the commentators had nothing but great things to say about you last night. Everyone is very impressed with how hard you are working and the player you have become. And you’re right, you’re not Kobe, which is probably why you didn’t get that call. But I would rather have you be JJ and not get the call, then to be Kobe and get it. You’ve always impressed me with your playing style and that’s why I’m a fan. Keep your heads up, and leave it all out on the floor on Sunday, and I hope to see you in LA for game 6!

Chris | on 12/6/09

You played a pretty good game out there for the time that you were in last night. Always stay positive and never get too high or too low. And always remember to compete on every possession. Also try too keep guys focused whether they’re in the game or on the bench because you never know what can happen on a game by game basis. – From a UNC fan, GO MAGIC and GO J.J. Redick!!!

JJ – we met at Cameron Indoor your Jr. Year..I waited to meet you because that was my dream come true to get to DUKE since my father was given a baseball scholarship but never got there because of the war. My dream was to get there and ever since you walked on the floor your freshman year, you were the man to shoot. Don’t give up – you can do all things through Christ….and you can do it. So glad for you on the court – Defend Kobe – he is not you! U can do it and I know it….keep being you and sink those 3’s – always #1 in Hershey PA!

David Barker | on 12/6/09

Great to see you play. I have followed through college and into the NBA. Hope to see you hit those threes like you did at Duke. I know you can, good luck with the series, your still in it, the Magic can still win it all.

“I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go,throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” – Mark 11:23-24 (NIV)

A nice quote from Jesus—the one who was buried yet came back 3 days later.

LisaLee | on 12/6/09

way to stay positive! the few late mistakes yall made were unfortunate but I KNOW yall can come back! 3-1 is irrelevant! lets show em how to come back baby!!
much love from La!

Ashley | on 12/6/09

Hey J.J.,
We’ve pulled for you ever since Duke, and we’re excited every time you step onto the court during the finals. Keep it up! I know people say you guys are gone, but I’m believing in you guys to make the comeback. I was so angry at the refs last night though. They must have been blind!
Anyways win or lose you’re still an awesome player who plays with heart.

—-Fighting with the spirit true, all for the love of old D.U.!

Philip | on 12/6/09

It was odom, not kobe, but you are right it was a foul and kobe would have got the call. When your on the floor try not to think about your shot so much and just let it flow naturally. Don’t stress and don’t worry so much about the game just play basketball and good things will happen. Your basketball IQ is so high that if you just go out there and have fun everything will fall into place. Just believe that every shot you take is going to go in and don’t think just shoot. Your my favorite basketball player ever and your time will come just have faith. You are a great player, always remember that don’t ever let anyone make you doubt yourself, your times coming. I wish you could play with Lebron you would play so well off of him and yall would be a great 2-3 combo. Good luck this series. When you get to play just remember, relax and try not to think too much just play the game.

Danielle | on 12/6/09

JJ, I discovered you your junior year at Duke and have loved watching your game ever since. I’ve been on the edge of my seat during the finals, just waiting for you to get in the game. Last night you were very impressive. Watching you hit a three will never get old and I was amazed by a couple of your passes as well. Best wishes to you and your team Sunday!! You can do it. =]

i love you JJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You look amazing on the court!

Ryan Acuff | on 12/6/09

Nice shooting in game 4, and that was def a foul on Kobe. I hate how it is different calls for different players! Hang in there and keep fighting, a few teams have come back from being down 3-1 and this Magic team can do it also! Good Luck and way to get your confidence back!!

Kari Lynn | on 12/6/09

Keep your head up and good luck on sunday!you guys can beat LA and everyone knows it!!!your fans are behind you and no matter what we will love you and the whole entire team!
sorry about the call.you should have gotten it.trust me i screamed at the tv not just on that play but many others as well.but like you said what can you do!lets just hope it dosent happen that way again.
great job covering Kobe!keep up all the good work you have been doing!

dukebd32 | on 12/6/09

I can’t imagine what it’s like to not know if you will get to play or not, but don’t you worry. Jeff and Mark mentioned during the coverage last night (game 4) how impressed they were with you and your ability to be ready as soon as you get in. You made great passes and defended well. As far as the non-call on your pump-fake on Kobe, I guess it goes in the column with his elbow to Jameer’s head and his other elbow on Dwight. Someone needs to tell the refs they may be close to Disney World, but they need to get back to reality during the games. But all is not lost- I still believe in MAGIC!!

mike b | on 12/6/09

jj you are my favorite player ever. I was at a ton of magic games this year and im going to game 5 game 4 was a tough loss im sorry for that but you have been shutting up critics that say you cant defend youve actually showed you can dish the ball also. I cant believe it but you need to get more pt. But we dont need to be making a disturbance in the locker room in the finals. But i look foward to watching you play man

coby | on 12/6/09

hey jj, sorry about the game last night =( i’m glad you got to play more, even if things didn’t quite work out for you guys. i always love watching you shoot! you’re still the best at that, don’t ever forget! i also completely agree with you on the no call from kobe. he and i might have the same name, haha (..i’m a girl), but that doesn’t mean i’m on his side. you definitely deserved those two free throws. but as you said, what can you do? anyway, i’m not giving up on you guys yet! it could easily be 3-1 in your favor, so i definitely still believe the magic can bring home a championship. keep your head up, and good luck! you have so much love and support out there coming your way from all of us.
love, coby <3 xoxo
