MY BLOG -- JUNE 22

Well, it’s been a little more than a week since our season ended and I still can’t get that image of the Lakers celebrating on our homecourt out of my head. It still hurts thinking about being so close to winning a championship and not closing the deal.

Now that we’ve had some time away I’m able to better appreciate all that we accomplished this season. Getting to The Finals was an amazing run, especially when few thought we even had a chance of making it that far.

We won 59 games in the regular season and had some huge wins along the way. And in the playoffs, we won that Game 6 in Philly when we had some guys out. Then, we knocked off the champs in Boston. And we beat Cleveland when most people figured we’d get swept out of that series so LeBron could get back to The Finals. It didn’t end the way we wanted it to in The Finals, but I can see now what a great run it was for us.

I was reflecting on my season and I think when most young players come into the league they think it’s going to be easy and they are just going to hit the ground running. But I’ve really had to work to really improve. This year was a big step forward for me in terms of my development and my improvement. I think I’ve established myself as a threat in this league.

It’s funny that my shooting percentages were down a little bit – and I didn’t shoot horrible because I was at 38 percent from 3 and over 40 percent for the playoffs. But the expectations for shooting are so high for me. But I did improve in so many other areas and moving forward in this league that’s really going to help me.

I’ll be back in the gym real soon, getting up shots and working on my game. We’re all motivated by what happened against L.A. and seeing the Lakers celebrate on our court. I know personally that will stay in my mind until we win a championship of our own.

O.K., I’m out. I just finished a Q-and-A with your questions and it will be out later this week. Thanks for checking out my site and thank you for all of your support.

JJ, I am a great fan. Really looking forward to talking to you.

Cooper Jones | on 9/7/09

Now that Battie has been traded, and the # 4 jersey is unoccupied, you going to take that number now or are you going to stick with the #7?

Brett | on 5/7/09

I have no room to talk, but continue to work on your pull-up jumper this offseason, you do a great job of penetrating because other players respect your three, however a lot of the time you look to pass first once you get by someone or penetrate too deep…stop and pull up for the midrange jumper more often and your scoring average can easily go up to double digits…as good of a passer as you can be I’m pretty sure you can be a better scorer when you have that mentality

hey congrats J.J on an amazing playoff run this year. I know it hurts losing to the lakers. I’m a celts fan so I hate them. Anyway great season and keep hustling like you do on the court and always stay positive off the court because we all know you don’t get the playing time you deserve. Good luck next season and GO MAGIC!!!

Happy Birthday, man! Just remember, the only expectations you ever have to live up to, are the ones you set for yourself. If you’ve ever heard of a fighter being told to just “let his hands go”, that’s just what you need to do. Don’t think react

JJ –
First off Happy Birthday Man! Enjoy the day.
You have any big plans for your offseason? Chill time, vacations and all that?

Jeslyn Tuiketei | on 24/6/09

Congratulations on a season that NO ONE expected! The pride that you all brought to the city of Orlando is almost unspeakable. From watching the games inside the Amway to Cantina on Wall Street to being outside the Amway watching the Finals games-the amount of pride we had for OUR Orlando Magic was crazy! Thank you all for your hard work during this season! You’re still a really young guy (HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY!) and I hope that you’re not planning on leaving Orlando anytime soon! The shots and passes you were able to execute all throughout the season proved you to be a great asset to the team. You had two crucial three’s in the Finals that got the game tied up a couple of times, and those shots were important. As changes are being made for next season, I hope that Stan the Man has great plans for you, which I am sure he does. I hope you enjoy you’re time off and get a chance to live a little in the off-season…everyone knows you guys deserve it! THANK YOU JJ for the role you play on this ever-improving team!

2009-2010 SEASON: WE’RE READY! and I BELIEVE IN MAGIC!<3

i just want to greet you, advance happy birthday!=D

good luck in your games,i hope to see you playing on the court longer this time, not just sitting on the bench for almost half of the quarter, because i’d really like to see you playing, and i believe that you’re one of the good players of orlando,so keep it up,

zoila leon | on 23/6/09

I think you did a very good job and they should let you play more offten. I’m such a huge fan, You’re such an amazing player!

Nick | on 23/6/09

Hey JJ, just wondered what inparticular your going to be working on in the off season? has stan told anything specific that would fit better with his offense/defensive strategies?

Thanks.

Michael | on 23/6/09

I just want start by saying that I am a big fan of yours, and I’m sure you get that a lot but I truley am. Secondly I would like to say that you did have a good year, but if your coach and teammates gave you more of a chance than you would put up the same numbers as you did at Duke. (ex. 40 pts. against Texas). You are one of the best shooters I have ever seen, if you get a good jump on the defender its inevitable that the ball is gonna see the bottom of the net. I really would love to see you get a secure starting position on any team though no matter how good they are so you can really show how good you are to the NBA and prove to the people that you are one of the elite players. Great season, keep it up and relax while you can. I’ll always be a huge fan no matter what you do.
-Michael

Joe Garza | on 23/6/09

Wish you had gotten more playing time in the finals. I am just waiting for the day to see you explode on the court and take your game to the next level like I believe you are capable of doing.

Enjoy the down time and looking forward to seeing you on the court again.

Cheers

Kestrel | on 23/6/09

you really did make a great run, and you improved so much, you are a threat in the leauge. Relax and enjoy you break b/c i cannot wait to see you celebrating anfter winning the finals, your in for another long season so rest up and thanks for an amazing season. peace and love always. kestrel

Alec | on 23/6/09

JJ, you had a tremendous year! I am a GIGANTIC Duke fan and I also admit I am a Cavs fan. Despite me being a Cavs fan I was at the playoff games at the Q and I gave you a huge round of applause when you came in and scored seven points in game 2. I have been a Duke fan throughout my whole life and you are my favorite player of all time. I am entering high school and throughout my middle school basketball years I tried to model my game off yours. The four years I got to watch you at Duke were the four best years of my life. I am a huge sports fan and at the time the Cavs sucked, the Browns sucked and the Indians were decent but I don’t know what I would have done without you and the rest of the boys down in Durham. You are the greatest acc scorer of all time. (that runt from UNC doesn’t count) You hold that title over greats such as Vince Carter, Chris Paul, and even Michael Jordan. So stay ready because you never know where you will get your break. And when you are a free agent, look at Cleveland as a possible destination because Orlando fans don’t deserve you, and I know I will by your jersey. Just be sure to always remember the days at Duke because all of the Crazies and I are VERY proud of you! You are and will always be the #1 player in my life. (unless LeBron wins us a title!) Always remember LET’S GO DUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Karen Ivy | on 23/6/09

Hi JJ. No doubt, you and the Magic will come back stronger next season. We are so proud of what you and the team have achieved from your young experience. Keep up the good work!

chad | on 22/6/09

Hey JJ first off good job this season i can see how you much your game has improved over this year. good to see your getting more playing time. How long is your contract for in orlando?
-The Chad

B-Klink | on 22/6/09

Yo JJ, you are TOO RAW!!! Don’t listen to all the haters and tar homo fans cuz all intelligent basketball junkies out here know you are the greatest shooter of all time and the most unappreciated player in basketball today!
Great run son

coby | on 22/6/09

hey jj! i am so glad that you’re starting to see your season for what it really was: amazing!, instead of dwelling on the last losses. i know that you guys will be right back in the finals a year from now! you work so hard and i just know that next season will be even better for you. anyways, i hope you’re enjoying your time off. you seem like a workaholic, so hopefully you’re finding some time to relax! can’t wait to read your next q-and-a! they are always so interesting to read. well, wishing you a happy, healthy, and blessed birthday on wednesday! i hope you get to spend it doing something you love with the people who mean the most to you. as always, love and support coming your way from me!
love, coby <3 xoxo

Off topic, but where’s tha poetry you’ve been bragging about? I thought it was suppose to be on here somewhere.

Ryan Acuff | on 22/6/09

Yeah it was a a nice run man. Maybe if you find 5 min. you could maybe upload some pictures from your house or cars, you know just to see how JJ really does things down in Orlando lol.
