J.J.'s Q-AND-A FOR JULY 2

O.K., here’s Part II of the question-and-answer session recently conducted with Orlando Magic guard J.J. Redick.

Part I of the Q-and-A ran here on the site earlier in the week and Part III will appear next week. Enjoy!

======================

Q: How do you feel about college players leaving early for the NBA?

J.J.: I think if college players or high school players can play in the NBA, then I think they should be allowed to do so. People make the argument all the time that it hurts the game, but I don’t think Kobe, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady and Dwight Howard all turned out just fine. People need to understand that this is a business and we have a short window to make a lot of money. The sooner you can get to that money, the better it is for you.

====================

Q: Is there one restaurant that you try to pick out in every city that you visit or do you try new places?

J.J.: I started doing this this year. I actually keep a hournal on my BlackBerry of all the restaurants that I go to. I rate them and I rate everything that I eat. When I pop back into a city I pretty much know what all of the good spots are.

====================

Q: Could you beat Reggie Miller in H-O-R-S-E?

J.J.: I’m not a very good H-O-R-S-E player, so he probably could beat me pretty good.

====================

Q: What is your favorite model of basketball shoes ever?

J.J.: My favorite pair ever was the Air Jordan 11’s, the patent leather model. I really liked the white and black ones.

====================

Q: Who is the most influential person in your life?

J.J.: Very easy one, my father.

====================

Q: Why did you switch from No. 4 at Duke to No. 7 with the Magic? Why No. 7?

J.J.: Tony Battie had No. 4 when I was drafted by the Magic, and I told people that I picked No. 7 because there are seven people in my family, but really there’s no rhyme or reason to it. I just wanted a single-digit number. Who knows, now that No. 4 is available again, maybe I can get that number back now.

====================

Q: What is your favorite ringtone on your phone? What do you have on there now?

J.J.: I never have a ringtone. My phone is always on vibrate. NBA players get fined if their phones ring in the locker room, so my phone is always on vibrate.

====================

Thanks for the questions everybody. Take care. — jj

You answered a question about restaurants in NBA cities, can you provide your opinion of good food in your hometown, Roanoke, VA and your connection? Thank you!

Do you think you might be an assistant or possibly even head coach some day at Duke once your pro career is over?

Dude Your the Awesomeness! Your everything they said and say you are, and will be, and so much more, I have believed in the Magic since I was 13, now 24, more so I believe in #7, Yet I am thoroughly tired of you having to play second fiddle. (angry face V.C., etc) You deserve more, more minutes, more everything. I will forever scream "Put J.J on the got d#$ floor!” in the O arena, and over the television like a mad chick!

On a lighter note, Dante and Galante! What can I say? More importantly what can YOU say? I literally *die laughing

Hey JJ, I agree completly with you on leaving college/high school early. Your not good at horse?!? well at least your great during games, and can make just about any shot. It would be nice to see you with the #4 again, can you just switch numbers, or what’s that process like?...well thank you so much for taking the time to answer questions for us, i really appreciate it!

peace and love always! kestrel

First of all a huge bet is riding on this-I claim all comments are screened and any thing unfavorable to JJ does not appear-We find the first answere to the first question is apalling-what you are saying to all us athlete college grads who did not have the fortune of making it in the big leagues who are struggling to find ans keep a job is that you got a job and took it only for the money. This is very disappointing but we guess you are not the first nor the last to think like this. Our hero Derek Jeter plays for the love of the game.
Next, rumors about you are over the net-if you truly want a supportive fan base, we think you need to be in better contact with them, we understand the need for a personel life, but when that life is coming across unfavorable your fans need to hear directly from you. Now lets see if I’m going to win that big dinner.

Why do you always blow into your hands before every free throw? Where did this new routine come from?

Beka | on 6/7/09

About Q.1, are you saying that the only reason to play basketball is the money? That’s a little disappointing.

Ryan Acuff | on 5/7/09

Thanks for the Q and A and i hope you get your #4 back!!

Maggie | on 4/7/09

So what’s this really exciting thing that happened on your birthday? Are you engaged? I think that’s what it is. My phone is always on vibrate too. Bye.

Jonathan | on 4/7/09

I like #7, which stands for completion. Biblical meaning. I’d keep it.
