JJ leads Magic past Rockets

The Houston Rockets couldn’t cool off J.J. Redick.

A dip in a pool after the game did the job, however.

Redick had just emerged from a “cold plunge” where temperatures are great for ice fishing.

For the last few years, J.J. believes in the pool’s recuperative powers.

“I swear by the cold plunge,” said Redick, wearing only a towel and a smile, still shivering by his dressing stall. “It’s the fountain of youth.”

Redick was hot all night, finishing with 20 points off the bench in the Magic’s home-opening victory on Monday night at Amway Center. He made 8-of-12 shots, including two of his three pointers in the fourth quarter to highlight his eight-point period.

Well, Dwight Howard has been asking more help, right?

Redick and Glen “Big Baby” Davis (13 points) led a bench that accounted for 40 points while Hedo Turkoglu gave a flashback performance (23 points).

Turk hit 10-of-14 shots as the Magic shot 53 percent – an awakening for a team that couldn’t hit the broadside of Tulsa the night before.

“We just played better offensively and had more energy and we got in a rhythm,” said Redick, trying to explain the revival. “Maybe it was a Christmas hangover (Sunday night), I don’t know.”
