April 5 Blog

Hey everyone out there! I’m in Cleveland getting ready to go to the arena to play the Cavs. First of all, I apologize for taking so long to post a new blog. A lot has happened since my last blog and I want to get everyone caught up on what’s going on. My brother, David, is doing very well. On behalf of him and the rest of my family, I want to thank all of you who kept him in your thoughts and prayers over the past few weeks. Dave’s surgery was a success and he’s already back home in Florida to rest and recover. It’s crazy though how things can get blown out of proportion. Have any of you ever played the game “telephone”? One person tells a story to the person next to them who then tells the story to the next person and so on. By the time the story gets back to the original person, the facts are generally so skewed and twisted. Our hometown paper ran a headline that said my brother had cancer. Wow. Obviously, he didn’t have cancer and it’s completely unprofessional to run a story without checking facts- especially a story involving a 20 year-old kid’s health. Anyway, he’s doing fine and he hopes to be back out on the golf course with me soon haha.

Speaking of golf, I’ve been playing a lot of it lately. Coach Van Gundy has given us a lot of off days recently and I’ve taken advantage. I’ll usually go into the practice facility in the morning and workout and then go play a round of golf in the afternoon. I’m not saying I’m good, but I’m definitely getting better from playing often (a couple times a week). I’ve got a new golf video I’m going to put up soon but I didn’t bring my camera with me to Cleveland.

Basketball is going well for our team. We clinched the division title which the Magic hadn’t done in 12 years. With only 7 games left everyone is getting excited for the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs. However, as Coach Van Gundy has said, we need not look ahead. We need to be playing our best basketball when the playoffs start and our remaining 7 games should give us a chance to keep improving.

Ok, so I briefly want to touch on Duke’s early exit. I’m pissed. I hate seeing Duke lose. We had a good year considering we had some injuries and no established post presence. But we need to get better, and I think everyone knows it. When I was in Durham to be with my brother I worked out at Duke and saw the new practice facility. It is fantastic. I’m hoping we can use that as a great recruiting tool.

Aight, I’ll put up some video and pics when I get back to Florida. Everyone enjoy your Saturday. Kansas is my pick for the Final Four.

I just have to comment on Duke going out early. I was sooo friggin P.O’ed! I bout cried. lol. I had to hear sooooo much crap for that. Carolina fans are the worst! They should like have a duke dream team! With you, jason williams, shledon, christian, Bobby (hurley), Grant, and duhon. That would be incradible. anyways, love ya, and your poetry is so beautiful. we should exchange some sometime! <3 ya gurl….

Really glad your brother is doing well! I know someone had asked you what your least favorite band was and you said nickelback, but what’s one of your favorites?

Jason | on 11/4/08

Glad your brother is doing good. I wish you would get more playing time, miss watching you play. BIG duke fan here, and it sucked they didn’t get further in the NCAA. When you going to get back to Duke in a coaching roll?

JJ…I agree with you about Duke..I love watching them play and it is a shame that they got knocked out so early in the tournament. However, they are a young team so they have a lot of potential for future seasons….Glad to hear your brother is doing well!...Anyways hope you are doing good and can’t wait to see the videos to see how your golf has improved lol..take care!

JJ, I am glad to hear David is doing good. I will continue to pray for a full and speedy recovery for him. Thanks for clarifiying that he does not have cancer, when I read that in the paper I was really sad. I hate when the news prints or reports something without all the facts! Hope your golf skills continue to grow! Can’t wait too see some more videos!

So glad to hear that your brother is doing much better!! Congrats on your division championship…I am a big Magic fan, and it was great to see a team work so well together to earn the No. 3 seed. Although I would have loved to see you play more, your time will come, you are a great player and we all know that!! Good luck with the remainder of the season and in the playoffs!! GO MAGIC!

I have been a fan since day 1 at Duke. I’ve grown up a Blue Devils fan and have kept my eye on you since you were there. Although I am a Nuggets fan, I make an appearance at the Orlando games wearing my Orlando Redick jersey. I can’t wait to see what you are capable of doing in the pros. Just wait for your chance. It will come. And if it doesn’t come in Orlando, beg for a trade to Denver. :-) I will welcome you any day, for more than one reason, and the Nuggets might just earn themselves another season ticket holder.

Great to hear that your brother is doing well. :) Hope he recovers very soon.

Love your current top 5 songs by the way.

Hey, I’m sure you know about this already, but from one Vince Vaughn fan to another, he has a pretty sweet website http://www.vince-vaughn.com/. It’s always there if you need a good laugh. Enjoy!

Hey jj,
Iwas at the game were you got your jersey retired. Who are my biggest hero. I have so many jerseys and autographs of you. After the game when you were leaving in the back parking lot of cameron all these kids came running at you to get your autograph, and you said that you had to catch a plane i was one of those kids that was standing there.

Hey JJ,
I am so glad to hear that your brother is doing better! Thank you for taking the time to keep us all updated. Congratulations on always working hard and giving your all when you play. That shows real heart and love for the game which a lot of people lack now days. Keep working hard and it will continue to pay off. Also, if you would have time to email I would be very interested in knowing what type of drills you used to perfect that amazing shot of yours. If you have time just let me know! Thanks! ;) Good luck on the rest of the season!

God is so faithful…I am happy to hear about your brother David. Congrats on clinching the division title as well. I too was distraught at Duke’s ACC and NCAA tournament runs. I went to the ACC tourney games in Charlotte, and those same UNC fans that are jealous of you and give you a hard time when you come in town to play the Bobcats were definitely full of themselves, but I had a good time anyway. So I was a little more than happy when Kansas handed UNC their big loss of the NCAA tourney. I truly miss seeing you in that Duke blue! I hope the rest of your road trip is a success. Interesting top 5 :-)
God Bless!

I’m glad everything went well with your brother. Sometimes the phone game can be pretty funny (when it’s not about health). Just goes to show you people only hear what they want to!! I’m pissed about Duke as well…..that screwed my whole bracket up!! My dad always said don’t bet money with your heart, but what does he know he’s a Carolina fan….

Steve-O | on 5/4/08

What a great win for the Magic tonight! Congrats on securing the #3 seed! Now that that’s over, maybe Coach Van Gundy will play the reserves a lot more to see the full potential of our bench. I saw that Garrity got some minutes tonight and took advantage, but hopefully you, Gortat, Augustine and Garrity can all get minutes in the next couple games! Good luck!

JJ
Thats great to hear about your brother and I hope he recovers well. And yes when Duke lost it was heartbreaking because they should have had that game.
I am looking forward to the videos!

Monse | on 5/4/08

Jenna | on 5/4/08

I just got back from that game, it was good to see you guys win, but I wish we could have gotten to see you play. I’m glad to hear your brother’s doing well! Take care!

Ashton | on 5/4/08

JJ, it is great that your brother is doing well. I have been praying for him. I totally agree on the whole Duke subject, with the lack of post presence we had a tremendous season. That is not an exuse for losing to West Virgina in the second round though. I watched the Cavs game today… Dwight was to much for LeBron to handle. Aight…. cant wait to see those new videos and pictures.

shell | on 5/4/08

Kansas has been my pick too. They’re the most well-rounded. It was amazing seeing Davidson almost take them down though. I’m glad your brother is doing well and I’m glad those stories about him didn’t end up being true. Its a shame journalists aren’t fact checking the way they’re supposed to. Take care.

Johnny | on 5/4/08

I am pissed right there with you….
I hope that DUKE gets a big guy

Lauren | on 5/4/08

Hey JJ! I’m glad your brother is doing well! I visited Duke a few days ago. I saw the practice facility. It is indeed amazing. We got to watch one of the men’s practices too! Hope all goes well!

nicole | on 5/4/08

ik, I was mad about Duke too…I just couldnt believe it. UNC is getting quite a few five star players next season & I just hope Duke is recruiting just as well. I think that Kansas will roll all over unc and ucla will do the same w/ memphis tonight. At least I hope. be strong JJ.

Whatever you Want it to be | on 5/4/08

JJ,

tI hope your bro continues to have a great recover and good luck in the playoffs.

P.S. Rise Against my favorite band now too.

Jenn | on 5/4/08

I’m glad to hear your brother is doing well and I’ll continue to keep him in my thoughts through out his recovery. I’m actually anxiously awaiting 3pm to watch the game on ESPN... we don’t get many of the Magic games on TV here in Raleigh, thank goodness for SportsCenter though. GO MAGIC!

diana | on 5/4/08

magic are ding amazing good luck with the reat of the season. glad to hear david is doing better. your top 5 is pretty damn good! i picked kansas as well.

Evan | on 5/4/08

Supp jj dude. Great to hear about david. we prayed for him. Yeah i was ticked about duke. I am the only duke fan in my family. my dad is a tar heel. my cousin’s are too. they give me a hard time. I get trash talked alot. So, golf,
Yeah me and my dad play golf but I broke my arm in feb. so it will be a while before I can play again. You should make a video of a magic practice. that would be interesting to see. So, last question…will you marry my sister? I want a good brother in law. I told her she couldn’t get anyone I didn’t approve of. I guess that won’t really hange her mind. good luck in cleveland. later days.

Alex G | on 5/4/08

Hey, thats awesome i’m glad your brother david is doing better, An idea for a video could you get a video of a workout or if you have some stuff from your high school days thing that we normally don’t get to see. I was mad Duke didn’t do better hopefully they get ready for next year. And I can’t wait for the playoffs. Best of luck to you and hopefully some more playing time these last 7 games for some experience.

Korri | on 5/4/08

JJ,
I am glad to hear that your brother does not have cancer. However, I did read that in the Roanoak Times. I had a gut feeling that it wasn’t true and I am glad that you cleared that up. Congrats on your team! I don’t get to watch your games because here in Montana we don’t get very many NBA games that features Magic but I do try to keep up with you and the team through the internet. I am so excited that you are number one in your division and the play offs are going to be exciting. Yeah, I was a little upset that Duke didn’t get father in the NCAA, but life happens. I felt that this has been their best year since you left and I know without D. Nelson, they will still be a threat next year. I have to agree with you on the Final Four, Kansas is our pick as well. Well, good luck tonight and every night. Go and kick some you know what. Take care and talk to you next time. Korri
