Hey y’all how are you guys doing? We are up 2-0 on Toronto and I’m pretty excited. For those of you that didn’t see, I got to play a good amount in the last two games of the regular season. I had 11 points in the last 12 minutes of our game vs Atlanta and I had 18 points in 24 minutes vs Washington in the last game of the regular season. It was good to play a few minutes and show what I can do. Yes, I can score. Yes, I can shoot. It’s weird but I don’t think I’ll ever be a great defender (the big knock on my game) but I know I can contribute in this league. I guess the big argument is that “no one plays defense in the NBA.” I can almost agree with that. If a guy is that talented- he’s gonna score. That’s the way the NBA works.
I’m really excited about the fact we’re up 2-0 against Toronto. They are a really good team and they have every intention of advancing in the playoffs. I hope that we continue to play with utmost intensity and passion. I’ve had more fun on the bench cheering my team on than anything I can remember. I hope we continue to dominate in the series.
Other than basketball, I am still playing a lot of golf with my boy, Brian Thompson. Brian is like a scratch golfer/2 handicalp, depending on the day. I shot a 90 the other day, including a birdie on 10, and am growing in confidence. It’s a lot of fun to actually put the ball in play and make par or bogey.
Aight, y’all be good. Keep up with me, and get ready for more top 5 lists!

so i`m just praying they start realizing they need to be giving you more time man I was at the game in toronto last year i think it was where you dropped 14 (at that point your nba high) in only a couple of minutes i thought for sure i`d be seeing more of you after that but still they didnt give you more playing time. apperently they`ve forgotten your one of the greatest shooter to ever play in the ncaa. i`d personaly like to see celtics magic and just watch you and ray allen start jacking 3s and just show everyone you can hang with the best
PT | on 8/5/08
dude jj, you need to go to a team where you can play because i have followed you since duke and i am really anxcious to see you get some real playing time. Congradulation for the win the other night and Good Luck in the rest of the playoffs.

Ok, so I buy my girlfriend some playoff tickets for her graduation (the mutually beneficial gift is always good), and I put on my new Redick jersey and we show up for Game 3 only to see you wearing a suit. What’s that all about? It felt wrong to be the only one out of the two of us wearing a Redick jersey. Killer game though, so congrats. Almost as good as the last game I went to when you scored 18. Anyway, hope to see you playing on Saturday and best of luck. Take care.

I want to see JJ getting more playing time.

I just wanted to let you know, (unless I come to my senses) at game 5 in Detroit I will be the psycho surrounded by red and white wearing an Orlando jersey. If I get beat up in the parking lot afterwards I blame you. The least you can do it suit up and throw me your jersey on your way to the locker room. If you’re wearing an actual suit a tie is also acceptable. It would really help aid my wounds, I think.

Hey J.J. Being that I’m from Arkansas, I’d probably have to say I’m one of the few Duke/Redick fans from around here. I’ve followed your career at Duke and actually got to make it out to Orlando to see you play during your rookie year!! You are an amazing athlete and I’m sure getting to play for Coach K was an honor!! I do have to ask though, what was the best advice that Coack K ever gave you during your years at Duke? Well got to get back to the Orlando game.. Beat those Pistons!! Good luck!
PS— the colts and peyton manning are awesome too!! ; )

Hey JJ. I just wanted to say congrats on ur 18 point game against washington and on your 1st round victory over the raptors. you’ve been my favorite player for i dunno how many years. i really enjoyed watchin you expand your game in college. i play varsity high school ball and am hoping to play in college. i have a game a lot similar to yours but i am smaller and play either the point or the 2 guard. i’m tryin to learn how to expand my game from just catch and shooting. watching you play in college taught me a lot. i just wanted to say thanks. i live in michigan but i’m pullin for you guys against the pistons. i hope you get sommore minutes. things will eventually turn around for you once they give you a legit chance. anyway good luck the rest of the way and have some fun.

Hey JJ, Just wanted to thank you for the memories at Duke. You’re my son’s favorite Duke player – EVER. I was able to make his dream come true when I got us tickets to go to Cameron to see you play. We got a “money shot” of he and you slapping hands; I sent it to the school and 3 months later got it back, signed by you. It’s now on his wall. He even says he’ll name his firstborn Redick; that’s quite a tribute, wouldn’t you say? Duke is not the same since without you. God bless you.
Kate | on 30/4/08
Hey J.J., I was so excited to see you playing the the past 2 games!
I’ve had faith in you since the beginning and I know that when you get the playing time you will dominate on the court.
P.S. I’m THE biggest fan of you.
You’ve helped me to improve my game and work harder in all that i do.
I even dressed up as your bride for the Georgetown game where you matched your career high of 41!

Kirk Stegeman | on 29/4/08
Hello J.J my name is Kirk Stegeman. I go to Ottawa University in Kansas City Kansas. I have been probably one of the biggest fans throuought your career. Watching you play in college and see how much you improved each year was unbelieveable to me. I get into debates with all my friends alot about the top 5 ACC players of all time. I feel that you are 4 or 5 because of how much you won and how important you were to the team. Statistically you cant be touched and that is one of the things i enjoyed the most about watching you play. I am a shooter similar to yourself, although not as good as you but i will give myself some credit. I am comming off of ACL surgery and i was wondering if you had any advice of how to get back to the old me because it seems like i am a little hesitant and dont have complete confidence in my knee yet. Watching you play was a great thrill for me and hopefully in the near future seeing you on the court will bring back all of the Believers. just so you know i never stopped doubting and thank you for all you have done.
Britt | on 29/4/08
Congratulations to you and your team for advancing to the second round of the playoffs!! What an exciting time for you and the team, and deinitly for the Orlando community. Also, great job in your playing of the last two games of the season, you showed the talent of shooting that we all know you have, congrats!

JJ whats going on just want to stop in and say hello i dont no to much about the magic and all because im not really a basketball fan or anything. but my friend diana gilroy and is HUGE fan of yours and yeah i can honestly say that she loves you. she when to two magic games this year in march when she was on vacation in florida and never thought that she would shut up talking about how great you did for that time you were playing. i no you are just like yeah she just a fan that love me oh well not diana she is most than a fan believe me. I love diana and i would honestly do anything for her and i no she would do the same to me. she has had some bad new told to her lately in the past couple month (which if you read your leader you get in the mail form her im sure you have heard.) well JJ i will let you get back to what ever you like to do so you keep PEACING IN EASY.
TRAVIS | on 29/4/08
FIRST OF CONGRATS ON MAKING IT TO THE SECOND ROUND!! THE MAGIC HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEAMS. BUT I DONT THINK THAT ANY OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT HOWARD!! I ALSO THINK THAT THE 3 POINT PERCENTAGE WILL GO UP IF THEY PUT JJ IN THE GAME!!!!!! IN THE NBA YOU DONT HAVE TO BE A GREAT DEFENDER YOU HAVE TO BE A GREAT PRETENDER ON THAT SIDE OF THE BALL. . IF THERE WAS NO DEFENCE IN THE NBA (WHICH THERES NOT MUCH RIGHT NOW) THE TEAM WITH THE BEST SHOOTING ABILITY WOULD WIN RIGHT? WELL I THINK THE MAGIC HAVE SOME OF THE BEST SHOOTERS THE NBA HAS. SO KEEP IT UP MAGIC .

These aren’t “top five” questions, but I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on either or both…
What kind of milk do you drink (whole, skim, organic, raw/unpasteurized)?
On a totally different note, you’ve talked about your relationship with God fairly often, especially during your second two years at Duke. Would you be willing to share your personal experience of how you came to know Christ as your Savior?
Thanks so much for your time. Hope you get some minutes in tomorrow night’s game. :)
Steve | on 26/4/08
I hope you get to play in game 5 so we can finally shut these guys out on our own court! I’ll be watching the game from across the street and cheering you on!

Hey J.J.
I just want to let you know that I am your biggest fan. I have followed you throughout your career in the NCAA and the NBA. Everyday I always clips from your 4 years at Duke and I’ve realized that you are God. Also when I watch those clips I always ask myself why Stan Van Gundy does not play you. I really enjoyed watching you play in your last two games you played great, but it was even better when u played in the 4th quarter of game 2 of the playoffs. I just want to let you know that you are my favorite and the greatest basketball player and keep up the great work.
Regards your biggest fan
Kyle
Steve | on 26/4/08
Based on what I’ve seen the past few games there is NO reason why you should be on the bench. I’m currently watching game 4 and the Raptors are up and it is because of bench production. You should be playing!!
I am a Raptors fan, but I am also a huge Duke fan and in particular a major supporter/fan of you. I would love to see you in TO.

JJ don’t leave the Magic bro. I understand this season and last has been tough. But next year hopefully you’ll get alot more play time (no more DNP-CD). We all know Van Gundy’s a doushe to you but once you start for the Magic our team will be dynamic, a fantastic 5; Dwight, Rashard, Turk, Nelson and the star JJ REDICK! Thats a nice introduction. Haha but if you dont play for the beggining of next season then I completely understand you wanting a trade. you on Golden State would be beast. All of those sharpshooters, you’d shine.
Brianna Cope | on 24/4/08
hey dont worry your d will get better it takes practice its only your 2nd year in the nba youll get your time to shine again real soon!!! i believe in you!!! uhmm one birdie and a ninety?!?!? you sound like my boyfriend!!!.....just dont golf mad you wont play too good !!!! o i use to pklay ball and all i ever did was sit on the bench and cheer for my team even thogh i didnt play i still had fun and felt great bc i love the game and thats all that counts
good luck in play offs you will do greatNick | on 24/4/08
hi JJ just read ya blog, dont say you’ll never be a great defender, your still young and new..ish to the league! if you put all you got into your training then Your D will get better! i got faith in you man!
Keep cheeringthe team and keep yourself ready to get on that court and prove the haters wrong!
Good luck in the rest of the playoffs.

Good to hear you are well and living through the bench time. I would like to send a letter to Arn tellem and tell him to get you to NYC and the Garden. Gosh whatta plus you could be to help rebuild the Knicks.
Many NY fans would love to see you there so if the Magic keep all those other guards maybe they will trade you, we all sure hope they do.
Good luck to the Magic, and keep the great attitude!
Oh yes try and get MORE than one birdie, ok :)

HEY! What’s up, JJ? I was gonna comment on your last blog but I never get arounf to it. Congrats to Magic for beating the Raptors! I hope you can beat them in the next two playoff games! I saw your game against the Wizards and it made me so happy to see you out there getting 18 points. I hope you get to play and show everyone what you’re made of during the playoffs! And all of us here on redicklive know what a great shooter and scorer you are! I got to see Magic’s when against Toronto on Sunday and I was impressed by how much you won by! I find it really adorable that you’re having so much fun cheering for your team haha. That’s so cool how you love to play golf so much! You should post some more videos showing off your golf skills.
Random fact/question: Yesterday was my birthday and it would be really beyond cool and amazing if you could email me saying happy birthday or something but you don’t have to.
Good Luck to you and the rest of Magic that they continue doing great in the playoffs! I hope you’re having loads of fun golfing! DO you think you could possibly post your top five favorite rock bands? That would be great!
lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of love,

JJ, I traveled to Orlando for Game 1 of the playoffs. I was somewhat disappointed that you didn’t get into the game, but a win is a win and I had a great time cheering on the Magic with the local die hards. We know you can play the game. Your defense has come a long way this season. Looking forward to many more good times watching you play.
Nicole | on 23/4/08
Man youve been playing golf an awful lot, your probably way better than me by now. I was so glad to hear about the 18 points that the next morning I was expecting your face to be on the front page of the sports section in News & Record…but sadly it wasnt. I think that you are a pretty descent defensive player and who knows, you just might surprise yourself one day. I hope your having a blast being a pro. peace

I’ll be at the Toronto games wearing your Duke jersey as per usual. If they give out red t-shirts…look for the lone blue person…visitors endzone about 20 rows up. PS- I scored 49 points as you versus the Raps on NBA Live. If only Van Gundy was there to see.
Beatrice | on 23/4/08
You don’t have any knocks in you game!! Just because people are saying that doesn’t mean you have to believe it…..resiliency is the key….....
Kat | on 23/4/08
I was at last night’s game & got there early enough to watch you do shoot around. You looked good & it was great to see you out there working so hard like you do. I was also glad to at least watch you do some ball handling even if it was not during the game. I decided though that you guys configured the basket on the side in front of the Toronto bench so that Toronto would not score during the first 1/2, but you forgot to fix it for the 2nd 1/2 :) You looked great during warms up for the 1st 1/2, but not so great for the 2nd 1/2, & the rest of the team wasn’t hitting much during the 2nd 1/2 on that basket during the game (hence the 1pt win). Overall, Magic looked good & I think you guys will make it to the 2nd round.
