Hello, friends! Not much to update you guys on in my life- I’ve been laying low and taking some time off from basketball (although you could argue I took the entire season off from basketball). Okay, bad joke. Sometimes it is good to get away from the game because when I’m ready to start working out and playing again I will be hungry to get better. I haven’t finalized my plans in terms of where I’m going to be working out this summer but I know that once I’m ready to go back to work I will work my butt off to get better. Until then, I’m going to relax.
I guess a lot was made of an article written by Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel. The headline read: “Redick: Play me or Trade me.” However, I never said those words. And if you read the article there’s no quotes from me saying those words. But that’s how the media operates to make a story. I met with Stan and Otis two days after the season ended and talked about my future with the Magic. I definitely expect to be back when training camp starts. You never know how things are going to play out this summer and I’m not going to spend the entire offseason speculating.
Ok, amigos- adios! Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend and I’ll talk to you guys early next week!

Hey J.J.! What’s up? I was wondering what your top five songs are on your Ipod currently…but here’s the catch…the top five sung by women. i was just wondering…thanks!
Peace,

Wow! Your one of my favorite b-ball player from both Duke and Orlando. I truely hope to see you play some more next season and it’s good to hear that you want to work even hard to get to where you want to be. JJ, I am a huge fan of yours and you are definately a role model for how I play basketball. What could I do to improve my shooting?

Good to see you back at Duke, on local TV and on sports pages of local papers.
We hope you will have more playing time this coming year. We watched all your games this past year on NBA League Pass and plan to do so next year reqardless of where you play. One of your many Senior Citizen’s Fans. Have a great summer.

JJ, Just wanted to say how impressed i was when i met you down in the Turks and Caicos. You were very respectful and a very nice individual. I apologize for bothering you in the airport, but i’ve been a duke fan forever, so it was one of the biggest highlights of my trip. Thanks again for being so gracious and if i had my camera i would have taken that picture (my brother doesn’t believe i ran into you down there). I hope you get the playing time that you deserve and wanted to say you seem like one class act,
Regards,
Chris

hey jj one of your big irish fans here.. ive always liked pure shooters like jason kapono and alan houston andyourself. hope you get more playing time next season if not come to the knicks looks like they are about to off load half their roster, and dantoni loves shooters!!!!
madison moore | on 30/5/08
hey JJ im 17 and pretty much watched every game you ever played in college, i know you’ll get your chance in the NBA i know you have the skills just be patient and I’m sure you will get your shot, thanks for all the great memories at DUKE!
Wes | on 28/5/08
Its just plain wrong what they are doing by keeping you on the bench. Your my favorite player of all time and i don’t ever get to watch you play. So the magic are stupid for not playing you. I don’t like to say it but i hope u get traded to a team where they will let you play. They are wasting your talent. well your time will come
jenna | on 27/5/08
jj
No matter what anyone says, jj, you have a ton of /fan support. Can’t wait to see you out and playing, we’ll be happy with wherever you decide to play =))

Hey JJ!
I haven’t logged on in a while. Glad to hear you are doing good. I am playing golf Father’s Day weekend here in South Carolina. I am sure you are working on your golf game this summer. :) I am contemplating on buying Bobcats season tickets, so if you go anywhere…..come on up to Charlotee. :)
Have a good one!
Blessings In Christ,
Rebecca

JJ…definitely keep your head up and maintain that positive attitude, the payoff will come sooner than you think. I can definitely see you developing into a Steve Nash type of player to go along with that deadly range. Well if Orlando doesn’t work out, I’m sure Boston or San Antonio will have room for your service. Enjoy your summer…

Hey JJ! if you get bored this summer… you can come to my house <333

I hope you stay with the Magic and thye find away to make you a part of their future. Your shot to too pretty not not be seen in a magic uni for the next ten years or so. Don’t give up hope. JJ redick NBA MIP award 2009!!! book it!!

JJ— I don’t know if you actually get time to roll through all the comments you get on this site, but I wanted to post on here for my first time to say “Great Blog!” I was not a huge JJR fan or anything, but I am a Magic fan, and was very happy that Orlando nabbed you in the draft. As a fan of the team, I did read the article, and really thought the headline was not a good representation of the point you were making. All I know is that every game you go in, fans go nuts. A boat-load of “7” jerseys have been sold. There’s a reason for that. And, I’ve become a fan of yours not just because of your talent, but your attitude. A lot of haters may try to paint you as a spoiled jerk that makes unreasonable demands, but in every game I see, you are the first one to jump up and shout when any Magic player makes a good play. One of the first guys to greet players “coming in” during a time out, too. Actions speak louder than words, and yours have made me a fan, bro. I hope next season your actions are speaking loud and clear in plenty of minutes on the court! Have a great summer!
Ana | on 23/5/08
Your Right J it was a bad joke but I’m glad you can joke around about it. I do hope you get the chance develop your game more next year.
kestrel | on 23/5/08
so it looks like you’ll be back next year in an Orlando Magic uni? well they better treat you right and give you the playing time that you bust your butt for. I think and hope that they will. There is no way Orlando can plan on making it far next season without the best shooter in the history of the game playing near every min….(that would be you) :) peace and love kestrel
Luis | on 23/5/08
Hey JJ. Not sure if you read the Orlando Magic Forums but someone insists that the word is out that you have a drinking problem. I pray to God this isn’t true because I am one that says we all make mistakes, but need to move on. Here’s hoping I see you in the starting lineup next year. God Bless.
Beatrice | on 23/5/08
I love your off beat sarcasm!! In my family if you aren’t sarcastic you don’t survive. Enjoy your summer!! In case noone says it enough…thanks for caring enough about your fans to have a website like this. I know it takes a lot of time you don’t always have and I just wanted to let you know it’s appreciated.
barnettej | on 23/5/08
J.J. dont sweat the media and their crazy antics. Most of us Magic fans only believe a tenth of what everyone says. Since most of their stories only focus on Lebron or Kobe, as they disregard any new rising teams…. honestly I think they have no love for Orlando…..(maybe because every NBA analyst was turned down by girl from Orlando).
We all know what you can do, we have seen it many times (although it may have been against one of our favorite college team). And we all have heard the “knock” on what you cant do ( its the same knock that can be applied to several superstars… like Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Dirk, etc.). At the end of the day we (the fans) want the same thing you want, that is for you to come back next year and shut everyone up. Shut them up the same way you shut opposing fans up, when you drilled a 3pt shot, crushing their hopes of their team pulling out a win.
Do your thing JJ, take some time away from the game, away from the rumors, away from crazy analyst’s (and the wannabe’s). And when you comeback this summer, and preparing for another roll-a-coaster season, keep one thing in the back of your head…. “Shut Them Up” and smile as your doing it.
Steve | on 22/5/08
I’ve got faith in you, JJ! I hope you’ll be back next season to shoot the lights out! I really can’t figure out why you didn’t get more pt this year because we relied heavily on the 3 and, as everyone knows, you are the best 3-point shooter in college history!! Good luck and I look forward to watching you dominate next season!

I had a chance to see Duke play locally twice during your senior year. The first was on New Years Eve at the Coliseum against UNC-Greensboro (I had a courtside seat under the basket). The second was at the ACC Tournament (I had a great seat in the Clemson section on the aisle thanks to my dad who is an alumni). The atmosphere during the ACC Tournament was something to experience. You would see a family for instance: the grandmother would be wearing a Wake Forest sweatshirt, the son would have an NC State t-shirt, and the granddaughter would be wearing a UNC shirt. It was just fun! Did you experience the same excitement and do you feel that way playing with Orlando? If you say yes, stick with it, work hard but most of all enjoy every second like it is your last.
Ryan | on 22/5/08
Make sure you play a lot of golf durring your time off from ball, and don’t worry, you’ll get your shine on soon enough.
Joe | on 22/5/08
Hey JJ. My name is Joe and I’m a Magic fan. Congrats to the Magic on a good season. Hope to see you in there next year. If you’re bored, go to Youtube and search for ‘The FBL Report’. It’s a cheesy little show I put together for our basketball league here in Orlando. Hopefully it will entertain you for a bit.

I am glad that you cleared up what was said or not said to Brian Schmitz with that statement you have certainly cleared the air.
I hope that your offseason you clear your mind and fix your golf swing and have a great summer.
If you go to the website JJ Redick and Duke Fansite you will see my latest blog. I hope you don’t mind, but I quoted you and said what I thought about Brian.
Peace be with you and your family.
Remember when you laugh at yourself then the world learns to laugh with you not at you.
Peace!

It sounds like you’ve got your head screwed on straight and are ready to enjoy the journey that God’s got planned for you. Like Brady Quinn said about his situation at Cleveland, God’s got him there for a reason even if he’s not seeing a lot of playing time at the moment. Have a great weekend!!
KORY | on 22/5/08
heyy J.J. i’m a huge fan of yours, i tell my friends all the time r my favorite player; and I back u up when the talk S*** about u. i’m a die hard orlando fan, i’ve watched them since the penny days. Thats good you need a break, time to clear your head and be ready for the next season. I know your gonna come back better than you r now
Steve | on 22/5/08
Again, let me say love ya JJ! (as it seems we all do…) I really think it’s awesome that you take the time to write us these little inclusions into your life; it’s a good feeling to be a fan and friend (even if never introduced) of someone who actually takes the time to acknowledge and appreciate their fan base. Love ya. Can’t help it. Quickly: when I think about the derision too many college fans gave you while at Duke or the seemming lack of faith of certain soon to be forgotten coaches, I try to frame it all in the context of Psalm 63.
Michael Foos | on 22/5/08
I’ve been a magic fan since they first became an expansion team when my older brother gave me a hat after one of his varsity basketball games. I do believe that you have a lot to add to the team especially if the coaches would stress running the pick and roll correctly which only Utah seems to do in the NBA. I hope you get a chance, i’m tired of hearing from people how bad you are when you have never gotten any kind of consistent minutes. From what I have seen I think you could be the Dennis Scott of this team. Good luck and I Hope you have it with Orlando, but if you do get traded try Utah you’ll own there.
CarolAnn | on 22/5/08
JJ your real fans & friends saw right through that article and others that picked it up and pushed the Play or Trade thing.
You never said anything close to that statement. But…. I still hope you might look at the Knicks. If Orlando will allow you then I’m sure the style of play and location will be the place for you.
Whatever, I just hate to see your coach and GM sit there and tell lies etc, then make you sit again next year.
Good Luck!
Mark | on 22/5/08
Hey Redick stay strong man, you know what you can do, we just already had too many scorers. Not saying you can’t do other things but i guess from a fans standpoint i see why they didn’t play you so much. So in my humble opinion the Magic just need some more defense and then you can really get into the line-up. Anyways glad your on our team, don’t lose heart, things happen for a reason
