Children's Miracle Network
JJ is no stranger to giving back, and has made a number or important contributions to the community since joining the Orlando Magic. JJ won the December 2007 “Helpful Player of the Month Award” and was a finalist for the 2007 Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award last March. JJ has his hand in a number of different community initiatives, however his main focus is his work with the Children’s Miracle Network where he is the Celebrity Spokesperson for the Torch Relay. JJ’s contributions to the program have been very rewarding for him, and have helped rally support and much needed contributions for the Children’s Miracle Network. JJ has hosted a charity poker tournament for the event, visited children in various hospitals a number of time, and continues to rally support for the cause.
JJ’s Words
As an athlete, hard work, dedication and sacrifice are all key components that help build the foundation towards being the best that I can be. Throughout my career, I have strived to use these qualities on the basketball court and beyond. That is why I am proud to be associated with The Torch Relay for Children’s Miracle Network, an organization that values the same qualities that I do when setting out to achieve a goal.
Each year, The Torch Relay for Children’s Miracle Network sets new goals to raise funds to help miracles happen for children across the country- most recently raising over $1,000,000 in 2006. This year, we will once again seek to exceed previous contributions to Children’s Hospitals, with a goal of raising over $1,250,000 via this fall’s exciting 23-day event.
Our journey will cover over 6,000 miles, beginning in Chicago and ending in California, while helping to make miracles happen everywhere in between. Whether it is walking, running or cycling, the message of strength and possibility that surrounds The Torch Relay for Children’s Miracle Network gives hope to sick children from coast to coast.
