He thought he was ready. He wasn’t. At least not completely.
“I think you can prepare yourself as much as you think you can,” Redick told the Orlando Sentinel in a phone interview after he received the news. “But when the moment comes, there’s certainly an initial shock, and I was shocked. The most difficult part was definitely saying bye to everybody, people that I’ve spent a lot of time with over the last seven years and built relationships with and built friendships with. The Milwaukee Bucks have acquired guard J.J. Redick, forward/center Gustavo Ayon and guard Ish Smith from the Orlando Magic in exchange for forward Tobias Harris and guards Doron Lamb and Beno Udrih, General Manager John Hammond announced today.
A seven-year NBA veteran out of Duke, Redick, 28, is enjoying the finest statistical season of his career, averaging career-bests of 15.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 45.0 percent from the field and 39.0 percent from three. His PER of 16.31 is the highest of his career and the ninth-best mark among shooting guards in the league this season.
